Dancing the conga are releasing their best album yet, And Now… We Take America. It has a lot of songs, and they’re all good.

Across 13 tracks they deal with both the close and the more distant relationships of our lives. At their best, they’re even able to show how the close ones are shaped by the distant ones, and vice versa. In those moments they really get things going, and you get the chance to fully understand how it’s all connected (if you’re into that kind of thing). On this album, Dancing the conga look outward and inward at the same time, in an acrobatic move that Sonja Henie would applaud. With songs like Security Council, Empire of Dirt and American Girl, they’re not afraid to unveil the bride and look American imperialism straight in the eye.

And Now… We Take America leaves no doubt about what Dancing the conga are here to do. They understand that if you want to get ahead (like former NATO GS Jens Stoltenberg), you’ve got to make friends with your enemies, even if that entails sacrificing your soul (and social democracy) on the bonfire of neoliberalism. This album explores the consequences of that sacrifice.
